Dave Ramsey is a financial author, speaker, entrepreneur and more. Most people know of Ramsey from his radio show “The Dave Ramsey Show” where he gives financial advice for people with questions. He even won the Syndicated Personality of the Year award for his radio show in 2009.
Entrepreneurially speaking, Ramsey has four companies: the Lamp Group Inc., Financial Peace University, Share it!, and EntreLeadership. In his latest book, “EntreLeadership” 20 Years of Practical Business Wisdom from the Trenches”, Ramsey writes about what it means to be an entrepreneur and a leader. With the economy suffering it is easy for people to say we need more entrepreneurs, more business minded men and women to go out and start something amazing. Ramsey’s book seems to be piggy backing off of this current push for people to start businesses.
The book is 15 chapters long and covers topics including Making Decisions, Hiring and Firing, People Matter Most, Compensation Plans and more. Even people who are not really considering starting a business can benefit from what Ramsey has to say. It is a lot about making goals, being practical and persevering which are practical for everyone no matter their career.
The book reads well and the personalized stories from Ramsey are enjoyable. He does have good advice for entrepreneurs and people in general but if you are someone who truly wants to start a business but needs the extra motivation of something brilliant and innovative, Ramsey’s book may not have the answer. It is hard to find something new to say about how to be a good leader, but it is always good to have a reminder, and that is exactly what Ramsey offers.
